MasterCard Inc., the world’s second-largest payments network, reported first-quarter earnings that beat analysts’ estimates as customer spending climbed. Headwinds from a stronger U.S. dollar began to moderate in the quarter, boosting cross-border purchases. “The year is off to a good start with solid growth in revenue due to strong volume and transaction levels this quarter,” Chief Executive Officer Ajay Banga said in a statement.
