French President Francois Hollande says he needs to produce a “sustained” drop in unemployment if he is to seek a second mandate next year. While a 60,000 decline in March is a good start, the data show that the Socialist president has a long way to go. Some 3.53 million people sought work last month, just under the record 3.59 million reached in February and up by 610,000 since Hollande took office four years ago. The increase in joblessness has persisted even as the French economy expanded.
