While both banks took government bailouts in 2008, Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc has been slower to recover than Lloyds Banking Group Plc. RBS reported its eighth annual loss in a row on Friday, while Lloyds posted its second consecutive profit a day earlier. Since the financial crisis, RBS has only outperformed Lloyds once, in 2011, when Lloyds reported a bumper 3.2 billion-pound ($4.5 billion) charge for wrongly sold payment protection insurance.
