Uganda’s President Leads Elections With Fifth of Votes Counted

Incumbent President Yoweri Museveni is ahead in his bid to extend his 30-year rule, with results from about a fifth of the ballots in Thursday’s presidential election counted.

Museveni, 71, has 61.8 percent of the vote after the tally was completed at 6,248 of 28,010 polling stations, Electoral Commission Chairman Badru Kiggundu said in a live broadcast on state-owned UBC Television in the capital, Kampala. Opposition candidate Kizza Besigye, 59, has 33 percent, Kiggundu said.
