Gold Prices Surge as Stocks Selloff

Not since April 2013 have South African gold miners had it so good. The five-member FTSE/JSE Africa Gold Mining Index has gained 66 percent this year, compared with the 1.7 percent decline for the benchmark All Share Index. Gold stocks are rebounding from a slump in 2015 as prices for the metal climb while the rand weakens, pushing up local-currency earnings for miners. The rand gold price rose to a record on Feb. 5.
