Kevin Weil, who led product development at Twitter Inc., will take a similar job at Facebook Inc.’s Instagram, according to a person familiar with the matter.
As head of product at Instagram, Weil will report to Kevin Systrom, the photo sharing app’s chief executive officer, said the person, who asked not to be named because the information isn’t public. Twitter and Facebook declined to comment.
Weil was one of four high-profile executives who departed Twitter this week. The exits put more pressure on Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who has vowed to make the service easier to use and more broadly appealing. Dorsey said on Tuesday the company had named former American Express Co. executive Leslie Berland as chief marketing officer.
Instagram has more than 400 million users looking at and posting photos to the app each month. Twitter has 320 million active users. At Twitter, Weil helped develop the company’s advertising product strategy before becoming the head of all of its products in 2014. Weil’s move to Instagram was reported earlier by the technology website Re/code.
