Stephen Bailey-Smith, the former London-based head of African-markets strategy at Standard Bank Group Ltd., has joined Danish money manager Global Evolution A/S to help oversee frontier-market investments.
Bailey-Smith will mostly be based in Kolding, Denmark, and is a senior economist and investment strategist, he said in an e-mailed response to questions. He reports to Morten Bugge, the chief investment officer.
Global Evolution manages about $2.5 billion of assets, including a $686 million frontier markets fixed-income fund that holds the bonds of countries including Kenya, Ecuador and Egypt, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
While at Standard Bank, which he left in November, Bailey-Smith produced a weekly report on African Eurobonds. He has covered the continent’s fixed-income and currency markets for almost 25 years as an academic and analyst. He joined the South African lender from ING Groep NV and studied economics at London’s School of Oriental and African Studies.
