Business Day Said to Consider Appointing Tim Cohen as Editor

  • Editor Zibi said to resign because of editorial interference
  • Cohen is editor of Times Media Group's Financial Mail

Time Media Group Ltd. is said to be considering appointing Tim Cohen as editor of Business Day, the largest business newspaper in South Africa, according to five people familiar with the situation.

The current editor, Songezo Zibi, announced his departure on Twitter on Thursday. Cohen is currently editor of the Financial Mail, another publication owned by Times Media Group. An announcement may be made as early as Friday, said the people, who asked not to be named because the information isn’t public. Times Media CEO Andrew Bonamour and Cohen both declined to comment when reached on their mobile phones.

Zibi is leaving because he disagreed with what he felt was editorial interference in the management of the company, two of the people said.

Times Media was taken over by Tiso Blackstar Group SE last year. Times Media also owns the Sunday Times, South Africa’s biggest weekend newspaper.
