Oil explorers in the U.S. climbed the most in four months as crude prices surged.

Exploration and production companies in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index rose as much as 7.3 percent Wednesday, the biggest jump since Aug. 27. Shares climbed along with a 3.8% surge in oil futures after a government report showed the biggest drop in U.S. inventories since June.
