Nigerian Troops Kill 49 Boko Haram Militants in Past Week

Nigeria’s army said it killed 49 Boko Haram militants in a series of operations in the past week and rescued 150 people held captive by the insurgents.

“Boko Haram terrorists had been degraded and weakened by the military after series of operations,” Major General Yusha’u Abubakar told reporters in Maiduguri, the capital of the northeastern state of Borno.

One officer and soldier were killed when militants ambushed a convoy of troops, he said.
