The main investment pool managed by Chris Hohn, the London-based founder of The Children’s Investment Fund Management UK LLP, gained 14 percent in the 11 months through November, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The Children’s Investment Fund, one of the largest equity hedge funds in Europe, manages about $10 billion of assets, the person said, asking not to be identified as the information is private. The fund outperformed the 1 percent advance in the S&P 500 Index and 0.3 percent increase in the HFRI Equity Hedge Index in the same period.
Hohn is known for his activist investing, buying stakes in companies and pressuring management to make changes that might drive up the share price. His recent investments include Time Warner Cable Inc, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
The Financial Times reported the returns earlier.
