• Police searching for man who was seen leaving the suitcase
  • Roads near area were temporarily closed, spokeswoman says

Boston police exploded a suitcase that was left near a Department of Homeland Security truck parked in the waterfront area, near the city’s financial district.

The suitcase was detonated around noon on Atlantic Avenue, said Myeshia Henderson, a police spokeswoman, in a telephone interview. Roads near the site were temporarily closed, she said.

Police have an image of a man seen leaving the suitcase and are trying to track him down, Police Commissioner William Evans said in comments reported by WCVB-TV.
