Shell to Proceed With Expansion of Chemicals Plant in Louisiana

Royal Dutch Shell Plc will proceed with an expansion at its Louisiana plastics plant, the latest example of a chemicals producer taking advantage of cheaper oil and natural gas in the U.S.

The company will construct a 425,000-metric-ton-a-year alpha olefins unit at the site in Geismar, it said Monday in a statement. Construction will start in the first quarter of next year.

Geismar produces raw materials used to make polyethylene plastic packaging and bottles.
