Family Bank of Kenya Says It’s Cooperating With Investigation

Family Bank Ltd., a closely held Kenyan lender, said it’s cooperating with authorities after the state prosecutor ordered investigators to question seven of its “senior officrs” in a theft investigation.

“Family Bank has always acted in strict adherence and in compliance with the provisions of the Central Bank Act, the Banking Act” and anti-money laundering regulations, it said in a statement published on the Facebook page of spokesman Norman Mudibo.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said Wednesday it’s seeking to establish whether the seven facilitated, aided or abetted the theft of 791 million shillings ($7.7 million) from the state-run National Youth Service.

The DPP also ordered that an investigation being carried out by the Financial Reporting Centre and the central bank, to determine whether Family Bank failed to comply with banking and anti-money laundering laws, be submitted within seven days.
