Cisco Denies Report That It's Interested in Buying Ericsson

Cisco Systems Inc., the biggest maker of networking equipment, said it isn’t interested in trying to take over Ericsson AB, refuting a report made by a Swedish website.

Cisco is focused on its recently announced partnership with the maker of wireless-system machinery, said Nigel Glennie, a spokesman for San Jose, California-based Cisco.

"As our executives have said this week, other types of transactions were never on the table," Glennie said. "We’re excited about the strategic partnership we announced on Monday and the potential it offers for both companies."

Minako Nakatsuma Olofzon, a spokeswoman for Stockholm-based Ericsson, said the company doesn’t comment on rumors or speculation.

"We look forward to starting to execute on the partnership we announced with Cisco this week," she said. "At the time of the announcement we spent a lot of time explaining why we think a partnership is a good structure for this collaboration."
