Nigerian Army Says Boko Haram Suspect Arrested at Abuja Airport

Nigeria’s army said a suspected Boko Haram Islamist militant on their top 100 wanted list was arrested at the main airport in the nation’s capital, Abuja.

The suspect was apprehended as he was attempting to board an Aero Contractors flight from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, the army said Monday in posts on Twitter.

“The suspect has since been handed over to the military intelligence for interrogation and prosecution,” the army said.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the military to defeat the Boko Haram insurgency by the end of the year. The group has killed tens of thousands of people since it started a violent campaign in 2009 to impose its version of Islamic law on Africa’s largest economy.
