Toyota Won’t Use Takata Air-Bag Inflator With Ammonium Nitrate

Toyota Motor Corp. won’t use air-bag inflators with ammonium nitrate, President Akio Toyoda said at a press conference in Tokyo Friday.

An increasing number of Takata’s customers are saying they will no longer use its air-bag inflators linked to scores of injuries and seven deaths in the U.S. Subaru-maker Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. are among automakers considering such a step after Honda Motor Co.’s decision to stop using Takata inflators in new models.

“What’s most important above anything else is the safety and peace of mind of customers,” Toyoda said. “We need to get to the bottom of this problem and identify the true cause of this.”
