Former National Basketball Association Commissioner David Stern has joined Paul Taubman’s PJT Partners Inc., where he’ll guide the merger-advisory firm on issues such as sports, global media and digital startups.
“Paul Taubman is a global media visionary,” said Stern, who is serving as a senior adviser at the firm. He resigned as the league’s top official in 2014 after 30 years at the helm.
Stern and Taubman have known each other for decades, dating back to when the NBA weighed whether to expand to Toronto and Vancouver in the early 1990s. The firm’s bankers include Don Cornwell, whose sports-related resume includes the sale of the Buffalo Bills and talent-management agency IMG. He’s currently advising Ron Burkle on the sale of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Stern, 73, also is the chief executive officer of DJS Global Advisors and a senior adviser at Greycroft Partners, a venture capital firm that invests in digital media companies.
Paul Taubman has advised on some of the biggest deals, including Comcast Corp.’s attempt to merge with Time Warner Cable Inc.
