Islamic State Convoy Hit by Airstrike in Syria: Observer Group

At least 40 Islamic State fighters were killed when their 16-vehicle convoy was targeted by airstrike in Syria on Sunday, the U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said in an e-mailed statement.

The convoy was hit in the eastern area of Hama province while it was coming from Raqqa, the de facto capital of the jihadist group, the group said.

The origin of the strike wasn’t immediately known. It came after the Pentagon on Sunday said that coalition forces had conducted an airstrike in northwest Syria on Oct. 15 that killed Sanafi al-Nasr, a highly ranking member of the so-called Khorasan Group, a network of veteran al-Qaeda operatives.
