Michelin Reveals Picks for San Francisco’s Best Cheap Eats of 2016

Before revealing new stars, the restaurant guide announces “Bib Gourmands” for the Bay Area, including Napa and Sonoma wine country.

On Thursday, Michelin announced a list of restaurants in the Bay Area that will receive its Bib Gourmand status in 2016. These are 74 restaurants that, according to Michelin, offer excellent food at a reasonable price. They are selected by the same group of anonymous inspectors who size up restaurants for Michelin stars.

Michelin will announce star awards for the Bay Area later this month.

The Bay Area has plenty of excellent and significantly cheaper eats, but Michelin’s list focuses on restaurants where $40 (before tax and gratuity) “covers two courses and a glass of wine or dessert.”

Newcomers this year include Diavola (Sonoma County), Farmhouse Kitchen Thai (Mission), Farmstead (Napa Valley), Izakaya Rintaro (Mission), La Perla (Sonoma County), Millennium (East Bay), Orchard City Kitchen (South Bay), Poggio (Marin), Ramen Gaijin (Sonoma County), Trestle (Financial District), Wonderful (Peninsula), and Zola (South Bay).
