China and the U.S. have chosen a site operated by Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Group in Shaanxi province to host an experimental carbon capture, storage and utilization project, the two countries said Friday.

The countries continue to collaborate on efforts to reduce greenhouse gases, U.S. President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping said in a joint statement. They’re developing technology to capture industrial carbon dioxide emissions and inject them underground to produce fresh water.
