Uber May Lose Bid to Force Arbitration on California Ex-Driver

A former Uber Technologies Inc. driver who won a ruling by California’s labor commissioner that she should have been considered an employee of the app-based ride service may defeat a bid by the company to force her into arbitration.

A San Francisco state judge issued a tentative ruling siding with the driver and finding that the company’s arbitration clause was unenforceable. Uber is trying to persuade the judge to overrule the labor commissioner’s finding on employment status. A court hearing on the arbitration issue is under way.
