Smisek Resigns From Board of National Oilwell After United Exit

Jeff Smisek resigned from the board of National Oilwell Varco Inc. a day after being ousted as chief executive officer of United Airlines.

United said Sept. 8 that Smisek and two other top United executives left the airline amid a federal investigation into ties between the carrier and the former chairman of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.

On Sept. 9, Smisek submitted his letter of resignation to the board of National Oilwell, where he had served for 17 years, according to a stock exchange filing.
