Former Syracuse guard Dwayne “Pearl” Washington will have brain surgery, Syracuse.com reported, citing sources that it didn’t identify.
Washington has been admitted to a Syracuse hospital, the website said.
About 20 years ago Washington suffered a seizure and was diagnosed with a brain tumor that was removed.
The 51-year-old Washington averaged 15.7 points and 6.7 assists in the 1980s.
The New York City high-school standout helped transform the Syracuse program into one of national prominence.
He was chosen by the New Jersey Nets with the No. 13 pick in the 1986 draft. He played three National Basketball Association seasons.
