The bodies of 23 soldiers have been recovered from the rubble of a Russian military barracks that collapsed in Siberia, the Tass news service reported citing the Defense Ministry.
Another 19 soldiers suffered injuries when a section of the four-story building collapsed on Sunday at a training center in the Omsk region in northwestern Siberia, ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Monday, according to Tass. Ten paratroopers who were among the injured are being flown to Moscow for treatment and a military transport aircraft has been dispatched to bring seven more to the capital, it said.
There were 337 servicemen inside the barracks when the incident occurred, Tass reported. The building had recently undergone repairs, it said, citing an unnamed regional law enforcement official.
