Moelis & Co., the merger-advisory firm that went public last year, hired Zach Righellis as a managing director to work with clients in the semiconductor and electronics industries.
Righellis, who was most recently at Barclays Plc, will be based in Palo Alto, California, Moelis said in a statement Monday.
Moelis is among boutique investment banks adding talent as the pace of mergers-and-acquisitions approaches the record set in 2007. The firm also hired ex-Barclays bankers Costas Kalisperas and Christopher Shaw this year to work from London after the U.K. bank had pledged to eliminate thousands of jobs.
“The semiconductor industry is in the midst of a consolidation period that is reshaping the sector,” Rick Leaman, a Moelis managing partner, said in the New York-based company’s statement. “Larger players are looking at strategic growth opportunities while smaller companies are more actively considering acquisitions, sales or mergers.”
Righellis previously worked at Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. and as a consultant at Sapient Corp., Moelis said. Barclays spokesman Marc Hazelton declined to comment.
