Zuma to Attend to Chief Justice’s Request on Return From Summit

South African President Jacob Zuma has noted the call by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng for a meeting to discuss issues raised by the judiciary and will attend to the matter on his return from the BRICS summit in Russia, Zuma’s office said.

“The president wishes to reassert his own commitment and that of the executive to the independence of the judiciary and its role as the final arbiter in all disputes in society, as well as to the further strengthening of the existing good working relations between the two arms of the state,” the presidency said in an e-mailed statement Thursday.

Mogoeng is among 27 senior judges seeking a meeting with Zuma over “repeated and unfounded criticism” of the judiciary, Business Day reported, citing Mogoeng.
