Seventeen-time major champion Roger Federer beat France’s Gilles Simon to reach his 10th semifinal at the Wimbledon tennis tournament.
Federer, the second seed from Switzerland, won 6-3, 7-5, 6-2 after the match was delayed twice by rain. He’ll face the winner of the quarterfinal between Andy Murray of Britain and Canada’s Vasek Pospisil.
“It was never easy for either player, it was quite windy out there,” Federer said in a televised interview after beating the 12th seeded Simon. “The stop and goes are quite tough, but I used it to my advantage.”
In the other quarterfinals, Federer’s compatriot Stan Wawrinka takes on another Frenchman, 21st seeded Richard Gasquet. Top seed Novak Djokovic plays U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic of Croatia.
