Canadian Solar Supplies 42.9 Megawatts of Panels for Japan Plant

Canadian Solar Inc., the third-largest producer of photovoltaic panels, supplied the 42.9-megawatt Takataya Hibiki plant in Japan.

Takataya Co. is developing the solar farm in Fukuoka prefecture, which is expected to begin generating enough power for about 13,600 homes in August, the Guelph, Ontario-based manufacturer said in a statement Wednesday. Terms weren’t disclosed.

Japan is expected to be the second-largest solar market this year with more than 11 gigawatts of installations, trailing China’s estimated 17.5 gigawatts, according to data compiled by Bloomberg New Energy Finance. Trina Solar Ltd. was the largest solar-panel producer by shipments last year, followed by Yingli Green Energy Holding Co.
