BP Treasurer Haywood Is First Man to Win Women’s Finance Award

BP Plc Group Treasurer Alan Haywood has become the first man to win an award at the Women in Banking & Finance event in London.

Haywood was awarded the WIBF Champion for Women award after challenging senior executives about the gender gap and establishing a women’s group at BP’s offices in Canary Wharf, London, the group said in a statement on Friday.

“It feels like the movement for gender equality has entered a new era, and I am pleased men and women are openly united in this shared goal,” said Janet Thomas, WIBF president and a managing director at Infinity Capital Partners.

Haywood won the award less than a year after actress Emma Watson helped start the United Nations Women HeForShe campaign in September to galvanize men to advocate for gender equality. More than 300,000 have registered their commitment to the campaign.

WIBF was founded in 1980 with members from global financial-services firms and banks, including Barclays Plc, Bank of America Corp., Citigroup Inc. and Macquarie Group Ltd. The awards ceremony has been held annually since 1998.
