Inpex Corp. will take part in a 330-megawatt geothermal power project in Indonesia under construction by Japanese, Indonesian and U.S. companies.
The Sarulla project on the island of Sumatra is being developed by Kyushu Electric Power Co., Itochu Corp., PT Medco Power Indonesia, and Ormat Technologies Inc.
Inpex has acquired 49 percent of a unit of Medco, which controls 37.25 percent of the project, Inpex said in a statement Wednesday. No financial terms were disclosed.
The station will start running in 2016 before reaching full capacity by 2018, according to the statement.
