Zac Goldsmith Plans London Mayor Bid, Evening Standard Reports

Zac Goldsmith, a Conservative Party lawmaker for Richmond Park in southwest London, is planning to run for London Mayor, the Evening Standard reported, citing an interview with the politician.

Goldsmith, a vociferous opponent of the expansion of Heathrow Airport near his electoral district, first intends to write to his 77,000 constituents to ask for permission to make the bid to be the Conservative Party’s candidate in next year’s election, he told the newspaper.

Goldsmith successfully defended the seat in the May 7 General election, securing a majority of more than 23,000.

The election to replace outgoing Mayor Boris Johnson, also a Conservative, is scheduled for May 2016.
