Subway Service Resumes in Toronto After Early Morning Outage

The morning commute in Toronto was thrown into chaos early Monday after a communications system error halted all four of the subway lines in the city.

Regular service had resumed as of 7:39 a.m. on all the affected lines, the Toronto Transit Commission said on its website.

Earlier in the rainy morning, subway stations were also evacuated, the Toronto Transit Commission said. Regular bus and streetcar service continued but no shuttle bus service was in operation during the outage.

The critical systems that allow radio communications with the subway had failed, Brad Ross, a spokesman for the TTC, which oversees the operations of the subway system, said on Twitter. Service was halted for safety reasons, he said.
