Mid-Atlantic Wholesale Power Advances Amid Boost in Demand

Wholesale power in the mid-Atlantic market gained following a boost in electricity demand.

Power consumption across PJM Interconnection LLC’s 13-state market jumped 2.1 percent at 2 p.m., data from the grid operator showed.

Spot wholesale power for PJM’s East hub, including New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia, gained $6.53, or 48 percent, to average $20 a megawatt-hour during the hour ended at 2 p.m. Friday from the same time a day earlier, grid data compiled by Bloomberg showed.

Power in the benchmark West hub, which includes Washington, fell $18.86, or 43 percent, to average $24.93.
