Oliver Names Ex-Mining Executive Simon to Bank of Canada Board

Finance Minister Joe Oliver named Jean Simon to the Bank of Canada’s board of directors, according to a statement Wednesday from his office.

Simon retired as president of Rio Tinto Alcan Primary Metal in June 2013, according to the Bank of Canada’s website. He joined Alcan in 1979.

The central bank’s board, comprising the central bank’s governor, senior deputy governor and 12 independent directors appointed to three-year terms, doesn’t take part in monetary policy decisions.
