South Africa Tax Authority Withdraws Malema Sequestration Order

The South African Revenue Service has withdrawn its application to have the provisional sequestration order against opposition politician Julius Malema be made final.

The decision was made “after weighing up the issues raised by the judge with the SARS legal counsel,” the tax authority said in an e-mailed statement. These include that SARS had several legal instruments available to it to recover outstanding tax debt owed by Malema.

SARS also considered that the Julius Sello Malema Trust had started complying with its tax obligations.
