- Screening devices to be used for NFL Giants, Jets games
- Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, Barclays Center have same security
MetLife Stadium installed walk-through screening devices to replace hand-held magnetometers at the security checkpoints for all events at the venue, including National Football League games involving New York’s Jets and Giants.
The NFL’s Committee on Stadium Security last month required that all league stadiums have walk-through metal detectors within the next two years. The equipment is already used at other major sports venues in the New York area, including Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, Citi Field in Queens and the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Officials at MetLife Stadiumin East Rutherford, New Jersey, said the new safety measure will be a more effective and less intrusive form of screening. Fans won’t have to remove their shoes, belts, coins, watches or jewelry, though they’ll have to place mobile phones, cameras and keys on a security table before walking through the metal detectors.
