Elliott Management, the hedge fund firm run by billionaire Paul Singer, hired Zion Shohet from Citigroup Inc. to become chief operating officer.
Shohet will report to Jon Pollock, co-chief investment officer, the New York-based firm said in a memo, a copy of which was obtained by Bloomberg News. His role takes effect July 13.
Shohet was global head of regulatory reform at Citigroup, where he had worked for 14 years, according to the memo. Stephen Spruiell, a spokesman for Elliott, declined to comment on the appointment, which was reported earlier Friday by the New York Times.
In a separate memo, Citigroup Chief Financial Officer John Gerspach said Tim Lyons would take over some of Shohet’s duties. Mark Costiglio, a spokesman for Citigroup, confirmed the contents of that memo and declined to comment further.
