Rangers Defeat Lightning 7-3 to Force Decisive NHL Game 7 at MSG

The New York Rangers are right back where they wanted and needed to be -- at Madison Square Garden hosting another Game 7 in an NHL playoff series.

Derick Brassard scored three goals and the Rangers won 7-3 Tuesday night at the Tampa Bay Lightning to force a decisive seventh game in the NHL’s Eastern Conference finals, with the winner moving on to the Stanley Cup finals.

The Rangers, who lost Game 5 at home, will host Game 7 on Friday night. They won a seventh game in the previous National Hockey League series against the Washington Capitals, advancing on an overtime goal by Derek Stepan.

“I was really disappointed about myself last game and I had a tough day yesterday and I really wanted to step it up,” Brassard, who also had two assists, said in a televised interview,

The winner of Friday night’s game will face the survivor of the Western Conference finals between the Anaheim Ducks and Chicago Blackhawks. The Ducks have a 3-2 series lead with Game 6 Wednesday night in Chicago.

“We’re pretty excited to go back in front of our fans for Game 7, we love those games,” Brassard said. “We battled all season long to get that home-ice advantage.”
