Green Power to Buy 52 Megawatts of Solar Capacity in Georgia

Green Power EMC, a distributor of renewable energy, agreed to buy the output of a 52-megawatt solar array built by Silicon Ranch Corp.

Green Power has agreed to a 30-year contract that will cover the electricity needs of about 8,500 households, the Georgia-based company said in a statement Wednesday. Terms weren’t disclosed.

Construction on the facility near Hazlehurst, in southeast Georgia, is expected to begin in late 2015 and it’s scheduled to be operational in the third quarter of next year, Green Power said.

Green Power has a similar agreement with Nashville, Tennessee-based Silicon Ranch for power from a nearby 20-megawatt solar project.
