Duke to Build ‘Disney-Inspired’ Solar Farm by Florida Theme Park

Duke Energy Corp., the largest U.S. utility owner by market value, agreed to build, own and operate a solar-power plant near the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

The 48,000 solar panels at the 5-megawatt facility near Orlando “will be arranged in the shape of a Disney-inspired design,” the Charlotte, North Carolina-based company said Wednesday in a statement. Terms weren’t disclosed.

The Reedy Creek Improvement District agreed to buy the power plant’s output under a 15-year contract with Duke Energy Florida Solar Solutions. The 20-acre facility is expected to be operational by the end of the year.
