Mitsubishi, Kyushu Electric to Study Geothermal Power in Japan

Mitsubishi Corp. and Kyushu Electric Power Co. will conduct surveys on geothermal power in southwestern Japan.

Site investigations will be conducted in Minamiaso Village, Kumamoto Prefecture, after the companies received approval from the village, according to a statement Thursday.

The Nikkei newspaper reported Wednesday that the companies plan to build a geothermal power station with about 15 megawatts of capacity, without citing a source. The size of the possible plant wasn’t mentioned in today’s statement.
