NATO Ministers Filmed Singing Lionel Richie After Russia Talks

One minute NATO foreign ministers were warning of Vladamir Putin’s nuclear plans, the next they were taking part in a mass karaoke version of Lionel Richie’s “We Are The World.”

Shortly after the end of talks in the Turkish seaside resort of Antalya on Thursday, video footage emerged of some of the western alliance’s top politicians, military leaders and officials letting their hair down behind closed doors, as they swayed arm in arm and belted out lyrics such as “We are the ones who make a brighter day.”

Filmed after the first day of the meeting dominated by discussion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s response to Russia’s increasingly aggressive attitude to its neighbors, the video shows NATO’s Norwegian Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg linking arms with the European Union’s foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini on a stage at their beach-side hotel.

Behind them, U.S. Air Force General Philip Breedlove, NATO’s top military commander who earlier in the day slammed Russia’s “discussion of nukes,” is seen dancing and trying to clap in time with the music, while Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias enthusiastically grabs the raised wrist of his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu.

Joining mid-way through the rendition, Danish Foreign Minister Martin Lidegaard is seen leaping on stage and planting a kiss on Mogherini’s left cheek.
