Oracle Co-CEO Catz Says Rival Buying Salesforce ‘Probably Good’

Oracle Corp. co-Chief Executive Officer Safra Catz said it would probably be good for her company if another firm acquired Salesforce.com Inc., though she declined to comment on whether Oracle was interested.

“If it’s acquired by somebody else, it’s probably good for us, to be honest,” Catz said Thursday during a question-and-answer session with journalists at Oracle’s headquarters in Redwood City, California. “It’ll cause a lot of disruption in that market.”

Salesforce is working with financial advisers to help it field takeover offers after being approached by a potential acquirer, people with knowledge of the matter said, without identifying potential buyers. Catz, who said she won’t ever comment on whether Oracle is interested in such a deal, said any acquisition of Salesforce by a competitor would be helpful to Oracle in the short and the medium-term.

“I think it will be interesting, definitely, to watch it play out,” she said.
