Ameresco to Build 18.6-Megawatt Solar Farm at Maryland Army Base

Ameresco Inc., a provider of energy-efficiency and renewable-power services, won a contract to build an 18.6-megawatt solar system at the Fort Detrick Army base in Maryland.

Ameresco will build, own and operate the power plant, and sell all electricity that’s generated to the Army under a 25-year contract, the Framingham, Massachusetts-based company said Thursday in a statement. Terms weren’t disclosed.

Construction on the solar farm in Frederick is planned for later this year, and it’s expected to be operational by March 2016. The plant’s output will cover about 12 percent of what Fort Detrick requires.
