Striking Prison Warders in Lesotho Ordered Back to Work

Prison warders in Lesotho who have been on strike over a wage dispute have been ordered to return to duty while the government of the southern African mountain kingdom addresses their grievances.

“Legal disciplinary action will be taken against those who will not heed the call and obey it,” Moeketse Malebo, the country’s minister for justice, human rights, correctional services, law and constitutional affairs said on Lesotho Television Wednesday.

Lesotho Correctional Services employees have demanded since December 2012 that the government review their salary structures, a measure that was undertaken for the police and armed forces.
