Abengoa SA, the leading partner in a project to boost water supplies to San Antonio, was named water company of the year at an industry event in Athens.
A panel of peers at the annual Global Water Summit cited Abengoa’s October agreement, as part of the Vista Ridge group, to build wells, pumping stations, storage tanks and a pipeline to deliver water to the Texas city over 30 years.
The Spanish water supplier and renewable-energy producer has projects from the Americas to West Africa. Its desalination capacity is enough to supply about 8.5 million people.
Abengoa’s shares have climbed more than 50 percent this year, valuing the Seville-based company at 2.51 billion euros ($2.76 billion).
