Sudanese President Al-Bashir to Visit Indonesia for Summit

Sudanese President Umar al-Bashir is traveling to Indonesia for a summit of developing nations, a rare trip outside Africa and the Middle East for a head of state indicted by the International Criminal Court for alleged war crimes.

Al-Bashir leaves on Monday for a three-day visit to the Asian nation to attend a meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, Sudanese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ali al-Sadig said by phone from the capital, Khartoum.

The ICC in 2009 issued an arrest warrant for al-Bashir on charges including crimes against humanity related to conflict in the western Sudanese region of Darfur. The court has previously urged countries al-Bashir is visiting to arrest him.
