South Africa-Mozambique Border Post Shut, Corridor Gazette Says

All vehicles from South Africa have been stopped from crossing the Ressano Garcia border post into Mozambique, the Corridor Gazette reported Friday.

Trucks with South African registration plates have been stoned in Mozambique and a crowd of about 200 has barricaded the N4 highway linking the two countries about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) east of the border, the newspaper, based in the eastern South African town of Malelane, reported on its website.

The protest is believed to be related to xenophobic attacks on foreigners that erupted in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng provinces this week, according to the report.
