Barclays Plc hired Sarah Leshner from HSBC Holdings Plc for a senior position on the bank’s emerging-market credit-research team, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Leshner will focus on corporate debt and begin working at Barclays’s New York office next month, said the person, who asked not to be identified because the information is private. She will report to Thomas Walsh, who heads fundamental credit research at the bank, the person said.

Leshner left HSBC last month after four years at the London-based bank, according to records at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. She had led Latin American corporate coverage for HSBC since 2013 and previously held emerging-market positions at microfinance investment company BlueOrchard Finance SA and Bear Stearns Cos.

Andrew Smith, a spokesman for Barclays, and Leshner declined to comment. Juanita Gutierrez, a spokeswoman for HSBC, also declined to comment.

Leshner has two master’s degrees from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. A triathlete, she placed fifth in the 13th season of CBS’s “The Amazing Race” in 2008.

Christopher Buck, Barclays’s former head of Latin America corporate credit research, left the firm in August, FINRA records show. He joined Finisterre Capital as head of credit research, the London-based hedge fund said in October.
